A Spiritual encounter on scared ground!!

Today we had our annual Rake-a-thon. Catholic school have a fall fundraiser and usually do a walk a thon but we years ago the school turned it into a community service project. We go out to the community and rake the yards of those around the school who can't. I had the best group of kids and parents and everyone worked so hard to complete our task. We were done with our yard in 30 minutes as it was a small one. So we went over to the city park where the rest of the groups were going to meet us. We were the first ones there for 30 minutes. When we got there I informed the kids that City Center was a very sacred place for the Native Americans and the burial mounds were to be respected and if you are going to rake approach the mound very quietly and do your work quietly. I can't believe how reverently these children respected the lying place of ancient people. When the girls who worked on the one mound raked they were so reverent and quiet. I joined them and thought about who was buried under the mound and what kind of life that they led and what this area looked like when they lived here. I was so proud of those girls and of the kids that were on my team.

The kids had such a great time. I let them make a huge pile of leaves and then jump into them before they bagged them up. One of the kid buried him self so deep you couldn't see it. I uncovered his face and took a picture. I am going to print it off for his Mom when I get home. You could truly feel the spirit of fall. This fall has been so unusual in the fact it has been the most gorgeous since I have lived here. The weather has been so mild and the colors have been beautiful. The first snows are on the way Sunday...but each day we spend here in fall is the closer to Spring we are.
