Dear Mrs. Merten.....

As I have been sitting here on the computer today I realized one thing that lacked in my marriage. I did not love him even when I said my vows to him. It hasn't been until I am with the one that I love, my soul mate, do I realize this. I saw all these articles in Brides magazines and shows like the wedding story where the bride thanks the soon to be MIL. Granted I had a very rocky relationship with my MIL before we were married and well into it, but I couldn't find anything that I wanted to thank her for. I didn't respect her son. I thought he was a loser. I was embarrassed of him. I thought he wasn't living up to his potential and limiting him self. Even standing on the altar that day I knew he was a sick, sick man uncapable of love. But I was going to rescue him. Show him the love of God that I knew the wonderful loving being who helps us through the life and looking at the hard things as blessings because there is growth and love. Instead he hobbled on all wounded not only physically but mentally and emotionally. I couldn't thank Mom because I realized I had damaged goods because of the lessons she didn't teach him and the way she wouldn't let him be an adult.

So fast forward to today.....There is a woman who I would like to thank for her son....but I can't. She is no longer alive. She raised a very, very good man with good grounding. She taught him to love and help those around him. She raised him to be a smart Man, a man who honors those around him. A man who knows how to treat a woman like a queen. A man who I can lean on and love. Mrs. Merten, I am so honored to be with your son. You raised him so well and you have everything in the world to be proud of him. Thank you so much.
